Why We Love to Work with Teens

Adolescence is an exciting time where young minds are open to the infinite possibilities of their future, discovering who they are and who they want to become. It is also a time when emotional intensity, social stakes, and personal expectations all increase at once. Even teens who seem confident or high-functioning often carry significant pressure that isn’t immediately visible and can find themselves overwhelmed, grappling with internal challenges that are difficult to talk about openly—with parents, teachers, or even peers.

With the intense performance demands of the Bay Area, shifting friendships, identity development, politics, and the constant presence of social media, it makes sense that many teens end up struggling with depression, anxiety, anger, and self-esteem.

Therapy offers a confidential, supportive space where adolescents can slow down, make sense of what they’re experiencing, and develop the skills to handle it more effectively.

We help teens learn to understand their emotions, manage stress, communicate more clearly, and build confidence in their ability to navigate challenges.

The goal is not to “fix” your teen, but to help them develop the insight, resilience, and practical tools they need to move through this stage of life with greater stability and self-trust.

DBT for Teens

DBT for Teens

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a practical, evidence-based, skills-forward approach that helps teens manage intense emotions and difficulty keeping themselves safe.

Some teens experience emotions very strongly and may struggle with overwhelm, shutdown, impulsive reactions, self-harm, or thoughts of suicide when distress feels unmanageable. DBT helps adolescents learn concrete tools for regulating emotions, handling stress, navigating conflict, and responding more thoughtfully in difficult moments, while also feeling understood in what they are going through.

Our program includes individual therapy, parent coaching, and 24/7 crisis phone coaching so teens or parents can access support and apply their skills in real-life moments when they need them most. If you would like to learn more about how DBT works and what treatment typically involves, please visit the DBT Services page for additional information - or contact us directly below!
